The language is so naturally colorful and poetic that everything in the dictionary is ripe for use as a double-entendre. Like anything else said in French, “menage a trois” can mean household of three, sexual threesome, or something tantalizingly ambiguous in between.
No wonder French porn was famous centuries ago - nobody could ever actually prove that it was “dirty” enough to get its possessor too severely punished.
