Just pray the toast doesn’t make the ceiling Swiss cheese.

How much I would give for the kind of $9 toaster you could get a few decades ago. They actually toasted evenly without pretending to know how dark your toast was or drying it out too much like melba toast.

I bought a simple Toastmaster once from a guy who repaired small appliances, and never had a better one.

It’s not the money but the pride in knowing that you could and did fix it

Nowadays the parts cost ten to fifteen times more than what we paid for the thing that needs repair.

For me it’s just another 3-D puzzle. There’s a great satisfaction in solving it.

The heartbreaking thing is when your ol’ trusty (fill in name of appliance here) goes belly up. Then you find out that (a) they don’t make that anymore, or (b) there are only cheap, foreign made knock-offs that don’t work as well, are counter-intuitive and last days, not years. Oh, dear Pluggers, we are almost obsolete ourselves!

This resonates with us. We come from a time when things were valued. We now live in a throw away society. For us, if something is broken we try to fix it. This applies to devices and relationships as well.

Well, why wouldn’t he try to fix it? He gave it to his wife on their first anniversary.

Half the stuff I own is older than most of the people I know for that very reason.

My ex-GF’s washer broke down ,cost me $50 for a new motor and a little time instead of 300 to 500 dollars for a new one !She was happy and I felt I did good ! That was about 15 yrs ago and I believe it is still going strong !
