@Nabu…Well that explains parents today; they were spared of the rod in their childhood. The problem with the state is that they refuse to blame the parents for their child’s behavior; must be from bad parenting again.

Gif is just a kid, and spills are part of the process of growth. No need for discipline in this case. Just get on your swing and see how high you can make it go! That’s what Karma and the somewhat disgruntled Sir Dudley are doing.

I’m with Nabu on this one..One addition, though: The discipline should fit the offender and the offense..Most kids do not require physical discipline. A few don’t learn otherwise..Also, spilled milk is not an offense; it is an accident.

If you don´t balance the things the kid won´t learn, and there is a risc they think they can do anything without repercussions.

Reading these comments, I’m reminded of Karma’s thought: that explains a lot.

There are a lot of Hmong immigrants where I live, and they get a lot of flak for using corporal punishment to discipline their kids. The interesting thing is that if you suggest timeouts as an alternative, they’re appalled at the idea; to them, that’s child abuse: the thought of the family turning its back on and isolating the child is horrifying to them. That’s one of the great things about immigrants: they offer alternatives to the points of view you’ve adopted for no better reason than “We’ve always done it that way”.

Soonest, but not necessarily lastest. Take Kerensky and Lenin, for example.

Note that I referred to alternative points of view, not alternative practices. Do you really think there are that many Americans who consider spanking under any circumstances to be “child abuse” who feel the same way about timeouts?

Please read the posts. Each one except yours was emphasizing appropriate levels of restraint, control, and application. You wrote about taking it to hyperbole. In fact, the only one advocating flogging is YOU (sarcastically of course.).That is why I believe you are either trying to incite a heated argument or simply didn’t read what was written.
