Why is it that no one ever talks about how Walt Disney faked that film on Lemmings? Walt was in reality a horrible person from almost everything I have ever read about him. Starting a fire behind the lemmings to force them to jump off a cliff would have people up in arms today. Also Disneyland when it opened was only for a ‘certain class’ of people, they wouldn’t let just anyone in.. bluejeans for instance were considered a no no as was long hair on men.
Walt was concerned about a thing called Family values and perception. He thought his stars should have a squeaky clean life. EVERY studio with contract actors treated them the same way. Actors were “lent out” from one studio to another for favors and detectives regularly “researched” all their private lives. Mentality of WWII and the McCarthy Era. Carried well into the late 60’s early 70’s. Disney merely kept it up longer because he signed so many kids and made kid movies. You want your kid working with an “immoral” person? Ingrid Bergman waited years to work in Hollywood because of an open affair she had. If the boss was so bad that way, look at Ben Rothlesberger’s latest incident and tell me if you’d prefer a guy being tossed off a football team for even the suspicion of sexual assault since he’s an image to your kids or do you want the “possible” evidence of his assault “accidentally” being wiped away when the police who are viewing it are suddenly called away to a different case? At least Walt didn’t buy off any witnesses or destroy evidence. He made it the star’s responsibility to live up the moral standard and sometimes an even higher one.

To complicate this urban legend, who inherits when they jump? The obviously have money if they can afford analysis.

Good idea, Cleo. I hadn’t thought about that aspect. Now I’m curious AND offended that I didn’t think of it first!

Rodney grew up with a mother who kept saying, “I suppose if all your friends jumped off a cliff, you would too?”
