I once went to the DPS to get my license renewed, took a number, waited and waited and finally left to go run some errands. On the way home I went past the DPS and, just out of curiosity, stopped to see how bad the crowd was. They were only about twenty away from my number, which I had kept, so I only had a short wait. The second time at least.

DPS is the Department of Public Safety which is the entity that issues driver licenses in Texas.

It’s DMV in many states. In Ohio it’s BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles)

Our system in Kansas is kind of nice. We can register online with our cell phone and they will send text messages to you when it’s close to your turn.

This was the year I had to go in and have a new picture taken. Had a friend that had gotten there early, waited for them to open and still spent about an hour and a half. I went about 2:30 in the afternoon. Lady issued me a number that wasn’t anywhere close to what was being called. Got called in about 7 minutes, sat down to wait for picture taking. Waited about five minutes and then the lady taking pictures didn’t have me sit down, she took me ahead of three others. Total time……..21 minutes from start to finish. Good news is I’m old and walk with a cane, bad news is I’m old and walk with a cane. Could not have been happier. Now it will be five years before I have to do it again.

Time to rename this woman “Doormat” since she cheerfully allows herself to be walked on.
