I have never believed that a child should be made to take care of a family pet. Out pets always belonged to the family. The children shared in the caring and joys of the animal. I do believe that children should grow up with domestic pets from an early age. In that way they learn to love animals and to be tender and gentle with them. That is far more important than giving a child more responsibility that he is emotionally ready for.
