I worked out of a company vehicle for over 30 years. As a perk, I got to bring the car home, but had to pay back mileage for personal use since the company paid personal property tax on the vehicle.
One of our neighbors tried avoiding paying for a business license by claiming he was running his carpet installing business from his truck..The county saw it differently. He got hit with the cost of the license, a penalty and lost the personal use deduction he was taking on his vehicle taxes. They must have turned him in to the state, and the feds, too.He ended up losing everything for tax evasion and some of the occupants of his house got deported.
