Actually they last less than a incandescent bulb does in a normal usage pattern.Only way they would last the supposed five years if you DON’T turn them off.LEDs are much better.
I’ve never had one that has lasted over a year. Plus they take forever to warm up and light up, and aren’t nearly as bright. Thanks liberal enviro-nuts!
CFL’s are just a bump in the road regarding better lighting. LED’s are replacing them. One could easily say that the incandescent bulb had a similar brief history in lighting.
We’ve been using CFLs for a decade or more now, and we’ve only had to replace THREE. All the others have lasted well-beyond the 7-years promised. (We’ll replace them with LEDs when they finally fail.).As for the mercury issue: ALL fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, but no-one has been complaining about “toxic waste clean up” in office buildings and homes over the past 60 years; this is just anti-progress talk, if you ask me. The amount of mercury in any fluorescent bulb is really quite minute…much less than in any mercury thermometer, or probably in the computer you’re using right now, or even in the amalgam fillings in your teeth (and those are in direct contact with your body at all times!)..Lighten up people! :-)

Don’t smack it. You’ll be left with a mercury spill to clean up.

That’s so early 2000s. The most fashionable fireflies are all LED.

Evolution has made some strange creatures; just look at the apes who think they are man by walking upright.

A CFL that lasts past 25% of the promised life span, unseen in the American home.

Lol @ cdward. I like the weirdness of Speed Bump a lot but this one is actually cute! Brilliant, Mr. Coverly, love it.

We use to catch them as a kid… You can actually screw their head in a lamp, and ( Wala ) Let there be light.
