Um… OK…. so I’m old…and out of the loop…but why would a hillbilly with a ZZ Top beard be listening to an ex-metal-ish/electronic band from Canada…And would he even know what it means to listen to it ironically?

Or is he supposed to look like a grunge fan.. but again…. with that beard?Or maybe… is that DEVO at the door and they forgot their hats??

And…. should I have gone to bed before I even started thinking about this?Yes… obviously…

Thanks Beau Nobo … “Hipster” had also crossed my mind when I couldn’t decide between grunge and hillbilly for his look. But the hat looked too tall and ratty for a hipster porkpie, and his pants too loose, besides my never having seen a hipster beard like that.

I’ll take a long-shot stab at this one: Maybe the connection is that the dude is so not a heavy metal devotee that the neighbors find it unIRONic. (i.e. not being like IRON!) Iron being heavy metal and the dude is not!!

I know it’s far-fetched, but it’s the best I can offer.

It seems to me that many of today’s newscasters use the word “ironic” when they really mean “coincidental” or “eerie”.
