    I’m trying to figure out the strip. Why would she be grateful for tenure on a day when her students are trying? It seems more likely she would be thinking “only X more years to retirement” at that point.

    Wait a minute – The comic doesn’t make sense.The student are being obtuse.So why is she glad for tenure?It would make more sense if she said, “Thank goodness I’m near retirement.”

    That’s what all unions do. It’s the job of the high-priced help (management) to decide how to make better widgets or better educations. Teachers are the ones on the front lines trying to do the best they can for their students.
