Time for some thoughts on thanks giving. I am thankful for the usual suspects; health, family (sometimes), security and friends. I am more thankful for the opportunities that have been made available to me. I am thankful for the opportunity to live my life in such a way that at its end, G-d will welcome me as one of the righteous. I am thankful for the opportunity to see the spark of divinity in all people and act accordingly to these least of my brethren. I am thankful for the opportunity for forgiveness and salvation, both here and later, like the forgiven woman at the well and the thief on the cross who, when he asked to be remembered was assured that this day he would be in heaven. I am thankful for those who have been put in my life to love me, for me to love, and to hold me accountable.And finally for dogs, ice cream and hot coffee.
I’m thankful not to be having dinner at the Pennys…though, truly, we should all realise that even those who do eat there are among the lucky ones on the planet. For so much of the world’s population, the Pennys’ Thanksgiving dinner would be a lifelong dream come true…So Thanksgiving, for me, means feeling gratitude even for the celebration, itself.
Once again, this year, after her parents pass out for their post-gorging nap, Patty will search the house, hoping against hope to find some evidence that she is adopted.
