I make it a point not to speak to someone who’s hurt themselves by whacking a toe, their head, or hand until the pain has had a chance to subside. When I do it, I just want to beat the living tar out of whoever says anything. No matter how well-meaning, such comments sound derogatory.

Bare feet are natures way of locating sharp objects on the floor. I learned that living in cactus country. :-)

My wife woke me up and made me get out of bed one night to make sure the back door was locked. When I asked her why she didn’t check it herself (seeing as she was awake and it was worrying her) she said it was cold. I went. The door was locked. I broke my little toe on the edge of a bookcase on the way back to bed, and as I hopped around cursing, my wife asked me to be quiet because I was keeping her up. Not kidding… I turned that into a Buckets Sunday in the early 2000’s. Today’s cartoon is just another angle of the same thing, I suppose, filtered through life with my kids.

It can be quite dangerous to “stub” a toe at the force of normal walking speed. If left unchecked by a doctor, it can lead to all sorts of problems, even life-threatening ones. :(
