There are so many mutts waiting hopefully to be adopted – young, old, black, white : you pays yer money and you takes yer pick: you’ll be paid back a hundredfold in love & loyalty
On the topic, decades ago I saw on TV a comic named Gerry Bednob (long before “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” and a few other flicks). At the time he wore a turban and played up his Pakistani background, which brings me to the bit. He said when he first came to America, L.A. in particular, the locals were heavily into chocolate-covered insects: “You know, chocolate-covered ants, chocolate-covered grasshoppers, chocolate-covered cockroaches… So I tried one. Tasted like a regular cockroach.”
In JG Ballard’s memoir as a prisoner of the Japanese in WWII China, he tells how they were advised to eat the bugs in their rice as it would be their only source of protein.
