I’ve heard that cats prefer narrow drinking glasses than bowls because it allow their whiskers to touch the sides of the glass. This allows them to sense how fast they are descending toward the water. With bowls they tend to get more of their face in the water than they would prefer. (Of course, no one has actually interviewed a cat to see if this is true.)
I have 2 large stainless steel bowls the cats share with the dog. They drink with one paw touching the water so they know the level I guess. The SS was vet recommended to keep kitty acne from coming back and it sure worked. I also have a SS fountain just for the cats on the vanity in the bathroom. That’s the one they prefer. They will drink out of my glass if I’m not looking though. I don’t really care but I’m not into cat food flavored water.
My boy never drank out of his bowl. He preferred the dogs large bowl or my tall cup on the nightstand. I would keep that for him day and night and refill it a few times a day. He would often jump on the bed to drink from “his” cup because he didn’t mind sharing with me. He’s been gone for 7 months, I still keep a tall cup by the bed, but now it’s just for me :(
If I could understand how a cat’s brain, which is smaller than a baseball, can change two humans, which have much larger brains, into servants, I might get a Nobel prize.
Here’s good joke…enjoy :) A grandfather and 4 yr old granddaughter are enjoying a ‘tea’ party…grandfather is drinking the pretend tea (water) out of the tea cups…having fun….grandmother walks in to see what they’re up to and when the granddaughter leaves the room to get more ‘tea’ she tells him, you do realize that the only water source she could reach is the toilet ……LOL
In the cold winters of central Montana when I was growing up and our only heat was a single wood stove on the first floor, we had to leave our water in the upstairs bathtub faucet dripping to keep the pipes from freezing. Our Siameses cat thought this was some kind of fountain and gave up using the toilet next to the bath tub. She didn’t like getting her feet wet on the floor of the tub, so she would stretch across the top corner of the tub to reach over and lick the drops as they formed at the end of the faucet. Quite a balancing act.

@Vegas Viper“My cat fell in trying to drink out of the toilet…so I just flushed…”
That’s a mean thing to do to your cat but at the same time it’s very funny.
