If we could just get the music, my wife would love to watch the show but we have to occasionally listen to the ‘Great Musicman’ speak and for some reason, it just grates on my wife’s nerves. So, we don’t watch the show ! ! !
I was the only one who watched it. I did it as a child. My mom hated the fact he came from the same state as both my parents did. Dad, he was into other stuff. His preferred music was rockabilly style stuff.
realist666: When he first came on the scene, the music majors were entranced at his use of instruments like bassoon and alto flute in a dance band. Unfortunately, instrumentation was one of the few innovative things about the show and it tired quickly with them. And yes, I do remember Ozzie Nelson leading a band, and his “girl singer” Harriet Hilliard.

My grandfather used to watch Lawrence Welk all the time. He was a most “wunnerful, wunnerful” showman.;-D

Welk himself was once a young wild musician, leading bands such as Hotsy Totsy Boys and the Honolulu Fruit Gum Orchestra…

I didn’t Like or Watch LW, and I feel the same way about DWS! Doesn’t make either a bad show, just not my taste in entertainment!

My wife was forced to watch it while getting her hair “done” on Saturday night as a kid, she won’t go anywhere near that show now.

Mr Welk was the reason I never got to see “Have Gun, Will Travel” when it was first-run.

Hey don’t forget about Hee Haw. We used to flip back and forth between LW and HH!
