    If only Caulfield had said “badly”, the sentence would have been a lot easier to parse. Given the books he reads, I don’t expect him to eschew adverbial forms.Better yet, “she so badly wants us to show our work in math, …” would have been instantly understandable, yes?

    Thanks, Kev_A_Swing_Dancer. I was having real trouble understanding what Caufield was saying in that last panel when he made that parenthetical remark. If only it had been grammatically correct, as you pointed out, I would have understood it instantly. Whew!
