I would have adopted a dog if I was not so lazy, that is why I have cats. I did adopt 2nd chance cats though; these are the ones who were adopted once but failed to get along with other animals or children. The first one survived 1 1/2 years the 2nd one was thought to be 13 but turned out to be 8 and lasted another 6 years. Both times their kidneys went into shut down.
We got our first rescue Border Collie in 1984 and have had nothing but since. You are indeed in for a great adventure. If I may…the best advice I can give is: TALK to that dog! Talktalktalk, and don’t forget to use your hands to communicate. What Shiloh doesn’t get from your words he’ll pick up from hand signals, whatever you devise. They are as sharp as everyone says they are.
I really want another dog (lost mine in 2004), but going to the shelter and choosing one from so many that need to be rescued just breaks my heart. What to do…Please, have a great day, all!

I got my dog from a shelter. It was like Christmas in July.

I frequently wish we had a) the room and b) the money for a dog.

Our current dog is a pound dog. We have had several rehomed dogs and a few dogs straight off the street. We have never had a pure breed pet store pup.

Every time a bell rings, a dog gets adopted.

Let’s hope the bell rings continuously. Today’s strip is bringing tears of joy to this old former dog owner…

Rex was a pound dog as well. All of our animals have been rescue pets…they make great companions.

I agree with Red and Rover. Adopt don’t shop! There are too many beautiful dogs and cats that need loving homes.
