That’s the trouble with Grand parents that live a distance away. It doesn’t take a ‘brain surgeon’ to know that nothing hurts a small child more than a grand parent, aunt or uncle who visits, shows them constant ‘very unconditional love’ and leaves. And really, that’s a suitcase full of clothes not ‘antique lace’. Now, act more like the grandmother you are and less like her mother and give her a ‘hug’.
my daughter would try this when my mom would be visiting. this was in the ’70’s. we would stand on the sidewalk and wave until they were out of sight – with tears in our eyes.
any real granny wouldn’t have had to ask. Lynn is no longer doing the strips. they are done by her son. she retired quite a while ago. this is a guy mistake. still funny though.
My paternal grandma lived 15 hours from us and we only saw her once a year or so. But my maternal grandparents were in town, so I guess it kind of made up for it seeing them all the time. :) Now it’s going to be about the same for my soon to be baby. Husband’s parents live 2 hours away, my parents are only 40 minutes away.My daughter will get to see my parents a lot more. :)
I found this whole sequence very poignant, seeing Grandma alive and well, seeing Grampa Jim still active and capable. I’m really enjoying revisiting from the beginning!
Must admit, you got me there! But, Lizzie probably thought that Grandma was fun to be with. I remember my Great-grandmother, and my Grandmother Very Fondly as I’m sure you must have had some great grandparents too, I hope. What I wouldn’t give to have them back.

Has anybody ever noticed that at the near of almost every strip, Lynn has a character do a bulging eye thing? Its weird

‘Tis not easy being separated from grandparents. I know for my maternal grandparents lived in Arizona while I’m stuck here in Washington.

The grandparents are finally going home; it’s like the classic line, “we’ve done all the damage we can do here, so…”

I thought it the syndicate that comes out and steals the pencils of those that don’t shock and awe a character in the end panel of all strips… :D
