CNN had a great article on the history of S.C. You can read it here: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/12/22/living/real-santa-claus/index.html?hpt=hp_t5 According to the article, Santa Claus was “invented” as an adaptation of the Dutch Sinterklaas for the sole purpose of keeping adults in line over the Christmas holidays. It was only later that the image was adapted to keeping children from misbehaving. Then, once merchants got hold of the image, he became the god of commercialism.

If he’s not Christian, then why does he give mostly to Christians?

The origins of Saint Nicholas aka Santa Claus, go back to the late 3rd century, in a town called Pataras, in Lycia before it was absorbed into Turkey.

Check out Iceland’s 12 Christmas Elves. There are a couple who love eating & steal food from the fry pan or cook pot. My kind of Elves, all food & drink! :-)

It’s called Christmas. Don’t celebrate if you don’t want to but I sure am.

He thinks @mhmercer is disagreeing with those who say Santa is Christian. He is very likely wrong.
