Around here nearly thirty years ago a sign like that would have been more likely to get folks speeding and kids killed. Well teens and early twenty somthings speeding. And I’m not joking.
We had a sign like that near my mom’s house. Later, near the school, they put up a sign that said “SLOW CHILDREN.” They meant slow down, but as our school included the special education unit, it caused a bit of a furore.
Of course, back then there were plenty of vacant lots to play baseball in. These days kids wouldn’t be safe in vacant lots even if they had a WW I Flying Ace flying above them to protect them!

Here in Minnesota, the signs read “Slow Children At Play”.
I looked around carefully and always found the kids were playing pretty fast…
