Waterson almost exactly did this gag with Calvin — many years later.

Decades later there was the character “Crybaby Boobie”, Snoopy’s tennis opponent, who cried that the net was too high (or too low), it was too sunny (or too cloudy), the balls were too bouncy (or not bouncy enough), and so forth.
