The main problem is that you work for two antagonistic groups: the citizens who pay your salary, and the politicians who hire and fire. I always went with the ones who paid me, and ended up on a nice assortment of blacklists.
I was an civil engineer in a government sector job for a minor city. There’s a blip on the graph at around age 51. Don’t bother looking for it, even with a magnifying glass, it’s so small it doesn’t even rate a label.
