Well, Sam has done it right; I am tempted to say “…for a change.” But, as I suggested yesterday, these two bank robbers are pretty low grade, so Tracy and Sam should not have had any trouble taking them down in any case. Tracy’s put Bronson away at least once already, so he’s about to become a two-time loser at best; likely, the same for Double E….
Fast work by Sam and Tracy. Sam disarmingly gives Double E a tap on the shoulder, and soon the Police tape goes up. Sam is on the job, same as when he collared Einstein at Goofy Golf. Thanks, silent E (and AnyFace)!
Both Branson and Double E look like they are supposed to be the likenesses of actual people rather than Dick Tracy characters. And Double E looks like Tony Isabella, who among other claims to fame, is a friend of Tom Batuik’s and occasionally does writing on the Funky Winkerbean strip. I don’t know what Tom looks like, but I’m guessing that Branson is modeled after him.
Whether I right or not, I’m sure Tony will have a comment about today’s strip on his FB page when I get there.
@Tarry PlaguerThat’s pretty shocking that the PDI/Dreamworks studio is shutting down. From a business standpoint, though, I think it makes sense for Dreamworks to focus on two films a year, rather than stretching themselves out to do three.
That’s an awful lot of animators suddenly looking for work, though. It looks like there is animation work out there for at least some of them, but many may have to go into another line of work.
Further to that, another comment tells us: “Technically, Charles Bronson was based on the canyon. Bronson Canyon got its name from Bronson Street, which connects to the Paramount Studios lot via the Bronson Gate and Charles Bronson took his stage name from the gate.”
It’s been suggested by someone that we take a gander at this particular strip from the distant past. Why don’t we take that trip and let’s dissect it, shall we? Dimensions of the characters seem within reasonable boundaries to me..Dialog seem to fit the illustrations.Reasonable attempt at shading made..There seems to be enough background drawings to fill in the panels..There appears to be sufficient movement in the story. There is a small but definite level of suspense. All in all not that far off from the level of today’s strip..I want to thank that poster for bring this to our attention; he must be a tremendous Dick Locher fan!

Sam is “Johnny On The Spot” watching Tracy’s backside. Nice work.

Have Bronson Canyon and Double E. appeared before?
Surprised Joe & Mike didn’t call him “Silent E.” to create a Jay/Silent Bob dynamic.
Or just for the oblique Tom Lehrer reference …
Wonder if there’s any greater significance to their names.

G’morning VB. Well, our cops are one step ahead of the crooks all the way this time. I think this is going to be a very short case with two arrests.
I love the hand in panel 2 and the one in panel 3 is also great.
Meanwhile, in the other strip, I wonder if Tracy somehow bought the comics for them.

And a belated Good Morning to you, VistaBill.

Way to go Sam, I was wondering where you were yesterday when DT put the stop to Bronson"s shenanigans.

Morning, Tracyville!
This Tracy story is winding down too quickly, causing me to wonder if the Funky story is going to come into play somewhere down the road.

The Chet Gould story formula (in 3 days) . . .
1 Crime - One, for the Money (in the Bank)2 Chase - Two, for the Go (across the street)3 Arrest - Three, for the No (at the Tellers Cage}
And Bronson’s long, lean face, certainly lends itself easily to Milton Caniff’s - Steve Canyon lineage

This is one strange “crossover.” Seems to be happening in two parallel universes.

Hmmmm, so Tracy never noticed that Double D was there AND Double D never noticed that Sam was there. Some serious Eagle eyes on both sides! LOL!!!

avenger09, you mean Double E.
Double D would be Dolly Parton.

I messed up on the picture of Tom Batiuk. Trying again:
A commenter on The Comics Curmudgeon thinks that Bronson Canyon is modelled on Charles Bronson. Could be true.
