I think it’s a reference to a number two edition of a comic book. At least I hope it is.

For those uninitiated in “Trek” lore, ‘number 2’ refers to the officer 2nd in command ie: Lt. Will Riker in Next Gen. The ‘red shirt’ refers to the mortality rate of new characters wearing red shirts.

You are right! However, in Rory’s universe just as our Spock is “Mr. Smock,” our #1 is probably #2…
