“2014 the Hottest Year in Recorded History” was the widely echoed headline yesterday. But besides the fact that “recorded history” in this case means since 1880 and not 6000 years, a little digging showed that NASA failed to mention the difference between 2014 and 2010 was … wait for it … only 0.02 degrees C. And that’s not all, folks; the margin of error was 0.1 degree, five times the claimed increase!
So looking at the “hottest” numbers for 2005, 2010, and 2014 really supports the observation that temperatures have been basically level for about 20 years and not the catastrophic rising temps of all those computer models that are becoming harder and harder to justify.
Michael Crichton wrote a book called “State of Fear” about global warming. He started out with the premise that it was real, and through research (documented in the bibliography of the novel) proved that it is not. The title of the book refers to the fact that the “powers that be” need to keep us plebeians in a constant state of fear over something (usually manufactured). Global warming is just one of those “somethings”.
Have you stopped beating your wife? You’ve committed the same logical error. So far the only “evidence” I’ve seen for AGW is the observation that burning fuel releases CO2 and it is a greenhouse gas. To get from that slim notion to the catastrophic predictions of the fear-mongers is beyond questionable.
We do take care of our planet. In most Western nations, the air and water are cleaner than they’ve been since anybody paid any attention. We don’t need a crisis, manufactured or not, to keep the planet clean. We need a healthy economy, which allows us to afford to take the extra steps necessary. If you want find some serious pollution, visit a third world country where the economy sucks and nobody can afford to pay extra for cleaner air and water.

Sigh. We hardly got to know him, he was so short-lived. Now, just a puddle, a carrot, and an old top hat….

Nothing to hate, Broomie. Global warming is more of a myth than unicorns.
