Man in black: Stop depicting me like that!
Man in brown: Sure...as soon as you stop being like that.
Man in black: You're not listening to me.
Ah, politicians complaining about reporters. My first real news story was of a minor scandal in City Hall, an illegal use of federal money. Two lawyers from the city attorney’s office came to the newspaper and threatened to sue both the paper and me personally. They never denied what I said was true, they just said I had no right to say it.Their club was loaded with blanks.
“But a rival, of Solutré, told the tribe my style was outré— ’Neath a tomahawk, of diorite, he fell And I left my views on Art, barbed and tanged, below the heartOf a mammothistic etcher at Grenelle.”
(Excerpt from “In the Neolithic Age,” Rudyard Kipling) http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/poems_neolithic.htm
I once had a contract presented to me where the other party wanted to codify that I would say nice things about him and included the phrase “truthfulness is not a defense”
My wife ran for public office once. The newspaper quoted her as saying something actually said by a different candidate. The retraction came out in small print in the back of the newpaper the day after the election.
dflak: Better than I got. The Dalla Snooze said only a Republican and Libertarian were running for my state school board district. I requested a correction that a Green was in that race. So they reprinted the same lie all over again. While I was initially on their online candidate survey, it was deleted and I never appeared on their printed version.
Gokie5: I filed against the leader of the flat earth faction (who lost in the Republican primary). I knew I wouldn’t win, but just wanted to raise a few issues. The only place my name appeared in print was the League of Women Voters’ survey and the ballot itself. Corporate media may not mention the Green Party at all. Rachel Maddow did back then in 2010 and suddenly had an unscheduled one-week vacation. She has followed policy since. The only coverage of Greens is on viewer-supported Link and Democracy Now. Fun is irrelevant, but the song said, “It’s not easy being Green”, that I can accept.

An armed society is a polite society, as long as you do as the nice man with the weapon says.
