He’s saving energy and cutting down on eternal warming. You know what happens if you get too much eternal warming, don’t you? You end up with an eternity in He!!
The newer CFLs are much better than the old ones – the spectrum has been improved and they’re now the same size as an incandescent bulb of equivalent lumens. The only real downside is you can’t use them in a cold garage because they never reach optimum operating temperature and stay on the dim side. They do save a lot of electrical power. LED bulbs are even more efficient, but until the price comes down it’s kind of a wash.
Where I live, we make our own electricity. I wouldn’t have one of those new style bulbs in my house. Sorry case of government overreach anyway. Just use dimmers.
After five years of using CFL lamps in most of my fixtures and having them fail either out of the box or at best within a year I started to convert to LED bulbs. The first to be changed were the six 65 watt kitchen and other ceiling flood lights, nine lamps in all. The difference was amazing, instant on at full brightness and Lower wattage than the CFLs they replaced at 9 watts each.
I replace one regular filament bulb every 2 years or so in my 3 bedroom/finished basement/1000 SQ/FT garage. How? Every light in the house is on a dimmer. I stocked up on enough of them to last a lifetime. Enjoy your mercury! I’ll never have to buy a bulb again, and I am 52. SWEET!

I much prefer the LED bulbs, and the prices around here are coming down nicely.

they have less mercury in them than you get in a can of tuna.

I have a solution to the gradually getting brighter problem. I just leave them on all the time.

CFL’s suck, not nearly as bright & definitely don’t last as long as they are advertised.
