If I ever wind up with a caretaker nurse (not too likely, I’ve got two decades on my wife), I sure hope she doesn’t treat me with groveling formality. Someone incapable of sending jokes my way would be intolerable.
Actually Gertie has been the cartaker for about 30 years now. She is as close to being a family member as one can be. I appreciate the way she’s handling this.
Wait, didn’t Gertie find out what the side affects of the meds were? Maybe she is just humoring Walt. He is 105 and is way past being a candidate for Alzheimer’s. In which case, a caretaker would humor the patient and try to steer them to (or remind them of) the here and now.
Sheesh! I’m glad I don’t work for some of y’all. Gertie made one mistake by being infatuated by Byrd (and keep in mind that she probably hasn’t had the company of a man in who knows how long) and now the world is ready to toss her out by scrutinizing any little thing she does or says. Come on, folks. Let he who HASN’T sinned, cast the first stone.
I agree with imrobert, and think she’s humoring him. I did that daily with my Paw-Paw when he had Alzheimers. And I don’t know if some of the things he said may have been true or not, so that was the only option I knew to do.

David, how do you figure that Gertie has been Walt’s caretaker for over 30 years?
She only showed up in the strip after Phyllis died in 2004…

I think when we see Phyllis showing up in these “visions” it might be time to call the preacher man…
