It was/is considered taboo to kill and eat bears by many Indian tribes. Because the bear stood on two legs and walked, they considered him/her a brother/sister.

People who are against hunting need to realize something: Animals in nature do not die peacefully. When an animal becomes old or weak or injured it either starves to death, gets ripped apart by predators, or throws itself onto the hood of your car. As the population grows so grows the population of predators. Then food becomes scarce, the animals die, and the predators follow suit, but as the predators run out of food they start feeding on other things, such as garbage and pet or farm animals. Animals in nature do not just lie down peacefully in front of the TV, go to sleep, and never wake up. A deer getting shot by a person does not die a death any more horrible than it would if it were to die naturally.
