Cuco: A Mcdonald's ad campaign called tamales a thing from the past. Eddie: Wow, that sounds kind of rude. Cuco: I'm having tamales tomorrow, so how can they be from the past??!
McDonald’s really isn’t what I think of for futuristic food. Besides, “Food from the past” usually means “the food you loved when you were a kid” and have again on holidays.
That was an infortunate ad campaign of McDonald´s in Mexico, to say the least. Plain dumb, considering how much tamales are part of our culture. I don´t think much of it anyway, nor feel compeled to go burn down a McDonald´s restaurant, but in the social networks as usual people tend to be too sensitive and to outrage for nothing. This is a good article about this same issue in Texas Monthly Magazine, where I first heard of it.

McD’s tamales would probably “come back” on me. Is that a thing from the past?

Dang. Now I’ve got to make a trip to El Burrito Mercado, and it’s way across town.

I hate to admit I don’t know what a tamale is, but now I want one.
