Peter: Mom said you had something important to show me. Jason: Peter, check it out... I made a bow and arrow set out of a coat hanger and a rubber band. It shoots pencils so hard, they'll go through a piece of cardboard. Cool, huh? Peter: Jason, what makes you think I would consider this even mildly important?? Jason: The fact that you owe me $2.

We made tiny bows and arrows from plastic ballpoint pen inserts and needles attached to tooth picks.
Worked great and was dumber than dirt even though no one got hurt.

It’s nice to see the “Better Off Dead” reference! I’m glad you got that GreatCujo.

Could NEVER happen. Metal coat hangers (as pictured) never retain enough rigidity and a single wrapped rubber band will break LONG before being able to propel a pencil with enough velocity to make it even 2 meters-ish. Probably Amend did it on purpose so that kids that read this and then try it cannot make it work (and then sue him for damages for the damage it caused). A wooden coat hanger and multiple, braided or wrapped thick rubber bands might do it or, better yet, a wooden coat hanger and a bow string or a guitar low “E” string. And, remember, if you try this and someone or something gets hurt or damaged, my username is Freeholder1…

We used to fly kites when kids back in the 1960’s and, when the kite eventually got wreaked, we made bows and arrows out of it because it was just paper, string and thin pine wood cross-members.
