It’s hard to interpret Wally’s stare in panel 3. It could either be resigned anger as in “do your worst, I don’t care” or defiant anger as in “I’ve decided to go out fighting anyway.”
Overall, it feels to me more like a stubbornly suicidal defiance, like Wally is going to follow through an let Phil kill him, but believes that by so doing, he’ll show up the lizard society’s corruption. Or something.
Wally’s expression is kinda hard to read for what he intends to do. Whichever, it looks like raw hatred. If anyone has a right to feel hatred, Wally does. This is going to end in a very dramatic way. I expect all the people who we think may all show up, might all arrive about the same time for a really big "shoe"*
Some young folks might not have ever heard Ed Sullivan show. May be I’m showing how old I’ve gotten.
Oh, man… The look on Wally’s face. He may just put up a fight, after all. Or, at the very least, dodge some of Phil’s blows to make him look slow and stupid in front of everyone.…Sarah is in the audience, right? Gee… I wonder who she’s rooting for…
To my mind, the expression on Wally’s face is “truculent” as in “I have to be standing here and I hate you all, but don’t expect me to fight”. The referee seems to think so too, as in his “Oh – for…” in the last panel.
I was going to post this earlier, but personal business came up:Commenters are looking at Wally in panel 3, but I first noticed the look on Phil’s face in panel 4. Phil knows Wally’s a scrapper and that’s who he wants to fight, not the guy in the ring now. Remember, Aaron’s characters have depth. There are good things about the bad characters and bad things about the good characters. This “fight” may have a surprise ending.
I not only remember Ed Sullivan, I remember the first time Elvis and the Beatles were on his show. My father was disgusted at “what you young people like these days”!
I was born on the tail end of the baby boom generation so I don’t remember watching Ed Sullivan, but I’ve heard enough references to the show that I have some idea of what it was about.
It seems likely the fight will be interrupted by the pre-show entertainment of a lizard being pulled into the alimentary canal of a paw-less Raccoon.Perhaps Jim has grown them back?We really haven’t seen everything the healing abilities of an anthro-mutant can do.
Its interesting that these mutated-into-animal reptiles have mammary glands, …for…..breast feeding? Has Aaron ever touched a biology book on reptiles before?

Phil’s not going to be satisfied with this fight if Wally doesn’t fight back. There’s no superiority if there’s no challenge.

Forget dying a martyr, he should just take out all his anger and frustration out on Phil. Make them rethink reptile superiority.

“Last man standing.” So if Wally sits down, the lizard has won and the game’s over?

I’m interested to see how this’ll turn out.As long as it’s not just Aaron Marx jumping out of a portal at the last second to punch Phil in the dick.
