One wolf, one deer! Either the deer was so enfeebled by age or disease, or it was Felis concolor. Still, the rat-lovers and fairy-tale believers will blame the lone wolf, whose main diet would normally be rodents.
Perhaps a poacher, too.
That deer is just playing dead. See – the eyes – not X’d out.
Hippogriff has it right. Wolves can’t take down a deer alone. It’s a cooperative pack effort.
