The spraying didn’t work. The preppies came home to roost in 2000 and had the economy in recession before Bush left office in 2009. They still think they are “the smartest people in the room”.
As always, Trudeau’s lib bias detracts from the comic. In order to be a worthwhile person, you have to give your money away, visibly, with great fanfare, accolades and recognition. Just being generous—as the Bushes are and have always been—is insufficient. Tiresome bore.
Real cowboys have manure on their boots, and they sneer that drugstore cowboys have to go look for some to put on their boots. Dubya was a drugstore cowboy, and dropped the rancher act when he didn’t have to impress the rubes any more.
Love it. Biff & Muffy;really evokes the era so well.I don’t recall Dubya being at all a public figure in 1981, unless he was referred to as the family’s black sheep. I definitely read this as referring, fairly or not, to George H.W. Bush, then the VP of the USA.

Wrong Bush. This is a 1981 strip…and the reference is to George H. W. Bush, who was from Connecticut.

This would have been inspired by the New England tent caterpillar plague that was going on at that time…
…and I well remember the flatbed pickup with “Die Preppie Scum!” emblazoned across the back of it.

This was all the rage back in 1981. Most of us thought it was hilarious. The preps considered it to be holy scripture.

Remember when everyone thought this strip was relevant? That was then, this is now.

The reference to Bush here IS to the Son, George W, not the father George H.W.
Bush the First was ANYTHING but a Preppy.
Bush the second, in the early 80’s, however, was almost a stereotype.

Bush 2 was from Texas. His father grew up in New England. Go figure…
