Well, we tried fitting Yum Yum for a harness yesterday as I found one we had for a smallish female. She made her feelings extremely plain and Paul and I are sporting scratches all over the place. Now, in the summer, when she wants to sit outside with us, I can simply sneer at her.
I was going to post this yesterday, but I didn’t for various reasons.
A year ago on Feb 28th, it was time for my little Pewter Persian, Chico, to move on to her next life, she’d been ill for a few months, and despite all her fighting, it just got too much. You wouldn’t have known how ill she was if you’d met her, even in her final week, I’ve never had a cat like her. She was nearly 17 years old, and had been with me just over ten years, a larger than life character that had survived a bleed on the brain over two and a half years previously, and had been on blood pressure medication since that time. I took her in with several others as part of a rescue and she settled in straight away. She always wanted to be with you, and lust loved to be stroked, groomed, or just carried around. She was only a small cat and it was possible to carry her in your arms for over an hour.Chico’s passing brought to a close the chapter in my life that saw me with fifteen cats in the house. Chico had been a surrogate mother to Lone Ranger, he had died suddenly three months before of liver failure, and Chico seemed to go downhill after then. I now only have Misty in the house, I still find myself looking for the others.
I’m active in the world of model railways and Chico used to sit and watch the trains run if I set some out in the garden on a summer evening.
I know my brain has been wooly for the past week or so, but has anyone heard from A_Dream4U lately? I think the last time he posted he commented on the number of snow days he had gotten off lately.Dream, hope you and your wife are OK.Happy Sunday to Gweedo, Ruth, Dry, Marge, Miscreant, Eldo, and anyone I may have missed.
Those buttons are so cute! I agree – Lily could put the ‘me’ and the ‘ow’ in meow. 2old – great pictures of ‘Lily’ being Lily. I love the Facebook one. I also like the Chesney one so much. You should do that one every day with Chesney’s comment for the day. More Cats Than Sense – what a great cat and definitely one of a kind. She looks like she was great fun. I’m sure you miss her terribly.
Wow, didn’t know I was missed, lol. I had posted 3 times in 10C the last week and no one seemed to notice. It’s quite alright, I’ve been busy with a 2nd job and looking at a possible 3rd, while freaking out about a possible BS lawsuit. So it’s been a busy month.I have so little to take, and so little to make, why bother?
To all posters, I don’t post very often, but I’m here each day, and I notice if someone is “gone” for awhile. I do enjoy all the posts, pictures, comments, and generally good will exhibited by 99.9% of the posters. Love this site, and the friendly good will sent out to all..Thanks for letting me in occasionally..but I don’t do the real transferring of “stuff” to sites, so keep it up, please, I, for one, really appreciate it.
Love the buttons…and all the photos today! The cat on the fencepost in the snow reminded me of my late, great Babe the first time she saw snow. It was in my backyard in Boston. There was just a small pile left next to a short brick wall. She stuck her paw in it, then jumped over it onto the wall, and then meowed at me to rescue her!
@smiley – That’s the product I’m hoping to get for my backyard, so my kitties can hang out in the backyard without having to be tied to the post we hang the bird feeder on – lol. And if they are feeling frisky enough, they do know how to back out of their harnesses, sigh. my only concern is if other neighborhood cats or raccoons climb in & then can’t get back out! Will have to keep the gate open when we aren’t out there, I suppose.
We had snow this morning!! Freddog and I went for a lovely 2 mile hike up in the mountains with a friend and her dog Indy. Gorgeous vistas with layers of clouds. Got back home to the valley (2000 feet lower) and it’s melted already, but the mountains are white. Finally!!
Big change with Blue’s brother’s adoption… the Queen called me yesterday to tell me that a man was in Petco and really wanted this big grey boy kitty for him and his wife, who had just had a stroke. We talked it over and I decided that since we did not know if the brothers were bonded (the lady feeding them had never once seen them together) I was okay with him going to a different home. I was a little sad at first, but think it was the right decision. If they had been hanging out together, I would have insisted on still taking him. It sounds as though he will really be loved.
I have wire fencing that can be climbed, but I loosely tacked 2 foot high chicken wire all across the top, about 4 inches down inside. It curves over like a roof and prevents them from climbing over, although Orange Kitty did one day when I had my sheets hanging on the fence. This fences off a small part of my backyard for the cats and dog, and I can leave the door open all day so they can go in and out. They were even out in the snow this morning – my phone needed charging so I didn’t get a picture.
Because my cat Misty has been an indoor (or secure area) cat all her life, she has no road sense or ‘street smarts’. I decided that she needed a way to sit outside when I’m not at home to supervise her outings, so I built her this:-
Bad/sad news about Hoppy II – before I tell you what happened, let me preface it with this: when we do an adoption, we recommend that kitty be put in a small room with food, water and litter box for a few days. This prevents them from hiding under beds and other small places. We ask that the new owner spend time with kitty. A lot of people ignore that advice.
So, this morning Susan got a call from the man. He said he did what we suggested last night and all went well. Litter box was used.
He let him out this morning. Kitty pooped on the dining room table. Kitty is being returned to PetCo today.
I have a couple of options. (Susan has gone to Vegas for 4 days)
1. bring kitty here and keep him in the BIG bathroom where I keep all of the foster kittens. I mean HUGE bathroom. Big enough for a wheelchair to do donuts.
2. leave him at PetCo. The condos are ok sized with 3 areas. One larger one for resting/playing with a shelf. One for food and water and one for the litter box. On the down side, kitty is a big boy and these condos are made for normal sized cats.
3. call the woman who had been feeding him and trapped him She left a message for Susan wanting to know what will happen to kitty. (Susan called her and left a message after the man called Susan) The woman is not supposed to have a cat because she rents. It’s hard to explain about this person. She’s very whiny, wants people to do everything for her but doesn’t want to take responsibility for anything. I could call her and tell her what’s going on and ask if she will take him back and continue to feel him. I don’t like that option a lot because if he is hurt or sick, she won’t know about it.
I have been pondering all of this for the past 4 hours and still have not made a decision. I hate the thought of leaving him at PetCo because of the condo size so I need to make a decision before they close at 5.
Thank you for going to get him. You never know about people! I wouldn’t dream of getting rid of Little who will piss on my bed if she is allowed in the room, I simply keep the door shut even though it is inconvenient. Let’s see how he does with you and maybe I can be option 4…
New plan, and it’s a good one: I just talked to the woman who trapped him and got the entire story. Too long to write here, but she is not at all the way she was described to me. She likes the cat and misses him and would like him back.
So, I’m going to get him today, bring him here for 7-10 days until his strong, un-neutered male smell is gone. I will keep Karen updated. Once that smell is gone, she will take him back. His routine will be the same – she has a cat flap in the garage door so he and her other cat can continue to go outside if they want or into her house.. Neither cat likes to be in the house all of the time.
This way we know he will be fed, watered and safe from the elements.
I rarely comment but I read the comments every day and absolutely love the pictures; I feel like I know each of you personally. Please keep posting the pics and forgive me if I occasionally “borrow” one or two to post on Facebook.
I, to, want to add my appreciation for all you commenters and posters. This is my favorite strip, for the cats and Annie, and for all of you. Thank you.
Chico was gorgeous! I can feel the softness just from the photos. We love all our cats, but some do leave a bigger hole in our hearts and Chico looks like one of them.
Well, Hoppy II / Tuffy is here now. I spent some time with him in the other room. He’s eaten, had some water and knows where the box is. He’s been petted and stroked and got a kiss on his head. I try to keep a towel under the door so he won’t smell my cats until I’m ready but Scooter keeps moving it and talking to Tuffy.
I just talked to Karen. She called to see if I had him and how he is. I think this plan will work.
Funny cat buttons today….Lily rules!!!Am glad I get to GoComics late…it is now 9:06pm on the east coast so have gotten all the exciting kitty news of the day. Looks like Hoppy II will do alright with so many caring folks thinking about his welfare. And Chico….you were just adorable watching the train. Misty and MTCS can’t help but miss you.
I wish I knew how to post pictures from my personal laptop Pictures Gallery. I would show you all my pets, and when I first signed on in 2008, my Hannah Bee was my first avatar.
And who knows, I may even get brave enough to show me and my family at least for 24 hours before I took it down! LOL! Some on here already know what I/we look like.
We are keeping jesse on a back burner. She’s offered to be option 4 but I’m really hoping this current plan will work. I just checked on him and he’s doing fine. Used his litter box a few times, which is good.

morecatsthansense: perhaps Chico is riding the rails on the on the other side of the rainbow. He has his own sleeper car, too.
No, I don’t recall seeing Dream lately, either. I do remember the post about snow days, tho.
