Jason really had no choice but to either pull this stunt and let his parents know who he really is, or else at least shave.
I don’t think they care about his appearance, just about him being a true preppy. Once they realize he’s not just momentarily slobby, they’ll tell us what’s really bothering them.
Not that different from any parent who has pre-conceived ideas of how their kids should turn out (and who makes tremendous effort to get them there). And it has nothing to do with whether what they want for their kids is selfish or snobby, or totally bleeding-heart softie like Kevin’s parents … the motivation and the heartbreak are the same either way, if they’re that wedded to their preconceptions.
