Mom: Did Miss Bliss play some songs on the piano? Alice: Yeah. They were all about washing your hands and being polite and not chewing gum. Every time her back was turned, we'd all go bang on the piano. So she sang a song about not banging on the piano every time her back was turned. Mom: The piano's not a toy. For every girl and boy. To bang and pound and... Alice: MOM.

We all knew Alice’s mom was cool. This is just further confirmation.

The relationship between pianos and children is universal. Everybody knows that song. Even space aliens sing it.

Lewreader, yes they did. It was written in 1928. Bing Crosby recorded the song in 1931, but it was Louis Prima (the voice of King Louie in “The Jungle Book”) who combined it with “I Ain’t Got Nobody” in 1956. David Lee Roth’s 1985 version is a cover of Louis Prima’s.

I don’t want to work, I just want to bang on the piano all day. I don’t want to play, I just want to bang on the piano all day.
When I was a kid, our neighbor lady used to sing “If I knew you were coming, I’d have baked a cake” every time we entered her house, and “So long, it’s been good to know ya” every time we left. Frankly, I never got sick of it. Sweet lady.

While my grandkids were growing up, they loved nothing more than banging on my piano. I think that and the fact that there were always presents for them is why they wanted to come see grandpa! I only had one rule for my grandkids. Do whatever you want. I don’t have anything in my house more important than the kids. I have nothing that I can’t fix, replace or do without. So, run free!!!
