Hello to those of you already here… and those still on the way.
This postcard appears to be done by Nighthawks…
I don’t see Stel’s name on it, though she probably did the link to this forum.
There’s a similar carving of humans, you know, on a South Dakota mountain….
but they’re all male, and all famous….
maybe presidents or something.
Mt. Basset looks like the four faces of Cleo… or maybe one (or four) of her ancestors.
I guess a human has to do something…. be a soldier, a humanitarian, a president…. to be immortalised in stone.
But every basset, male or female, is obviously special enough to be carved on a mountaintop.
Grog…. I think it was filmed here, though I can’t remember whether it was this monument or one with the basset presidents.
Or whether that’s the proper basset title, or the human one.
I do remember the male and female dogs running around on a giant stone muzzle… and lots of suspense.
And I’m pretty sure Stel did a poster for it.
I wanted to show it, to solve the mystery… but for some reason, tonight I can’t find it.
StelBel?
And Liverlips…
Yes… he was the uncle of “Duke”, (his formal show name is “Duke of Edinburgh” , the consort of “Queenie” (“Her Majesty Queen of England” … whew, that’s long!)
He was influential in training their pup… “Charlie” (“Prince Charlie of York”), and finding him a purebred mate…
a relationship that produced a couple of fine puppies, but unfortunately, didn’t last.
I don’t know whether there’s any connection between his name and this monument.
Look how long those ears are!!! All the easier to slid down (or climb up) Mount Basset. Really great!
I haven’t seen a real postcard in ages! As a kid, I collected them, and still have an old shoe box of them. I guess that was a whole lot cheaper to spend a nickle on a picture postcard than on a camera, film, and developing. (and then it probably wouldn’t turn out anyway)
Of course, now, with digital cameras you can take all kinds of shots just to get one really great one, and delete all the runner-ups.

That’s quite the find. Around here the gulls would have got it before it touched the ground.

Funny coincidence ~~ I bought cinnamon-raisin bagels at the store today. Maybe I should go to Ballard Street and hide one in the bushes.
