" ‘I’m bored’ is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great, big, vast world that you’ve seen none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless; it goes on forever, inwardly, do you understand? The fact that you’re alive is amazing, so you don’t get to say ‘I’m bored.’ " — Louis C.K.
I know this is a comic, but the boy is right. He sits among grandparents day in and day out. Why isn’t either of them taking him someone and it doesn’t have to cost a penny. How about letting a friend come over to play. How about playing a Monopoly or Sorry or 500 Rummy?
I was never bored whilst staying with my grandparents for a couple of weeks in Pittsburgh, Pa. There was always something to keep up the excitement, such as watching my grandfather shave or my grandmother pull weeks in her garden. Once they said we were going to KennyWood Park. But cancelled at the last minute. Instead we went out into the country where they purchased a chicken for dinner.
Funny, if I told my parents I was bored back in the day, they would tell me it was my own fault and I had plenty to amuse me. Because of that, I learned to find things to do so I wouldn’t have to hear that again.
When my kids said they were bored, I would tell them to clean their room. Funny how they suddenly found something to interest them. I, too, never get bored. I hate to sit and do nothing so I find lots of things to keep me busy.
I admit I was bored this week. I also was, for the 5th time this winter, sick, to the point where the world is your bed and the couch but you feel too bad to sleep and have trouble concentrating on the TV and your books, and had been stuck there for a few days.

10-year-olds haven’t quite developed the maturity of Louis C.K. Give them a few months.

Opal’s not bored because she does nothing? Reminds me a bit of Yogi’s “Nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded.”

Absolutely! When I worked at a daycare center, and any of my kids said they were bored, my reply was, “That’s nice!”
It is a choice!
