Newspaper editors have successfully pushed the shrinking of comics for decades. In 2000, when papers started rerunning PEANUTS from the 1970’s, it was clearly evident how much smaller they’d become in only 30 years. Here we’re going back to 1920’s. By today’s standards those strips were enormous. Back then they got a little respect. But editors hate the comics, and have long wished them to go away. Hence he incessant shrinking- to at least punish them if they can’t be rid of them.
I’m able to read it after it is enlarged, but the lettering is very small. I remember this great old strip. It was always one of my favorites. -Perhaps we can convince GoComics to display “SKIPPY” larger?
Hey, just for the sake of Trivia- Only one vestige of the huge fame and ubiquity of the marketing of this old strip remains today. Can anyone guess what it is?
Back in the roaring 20’s newspapers were as big as an elephant. It took an entire tree to make the Sports Section!!!! Thus, the tiny print. I believe this strip was originally 3 feet across!!!!! The reason the newspapers were so big was due to the depression. The newspapers were making a lot of money and made the papers huge so they could be used as blankets or sewn into pants by the less fortunate. It was said that a kid folded a newspaper up into a boat big enough that he sailed from Galveston to New Orleans!!!! This is what Charmy from Charmy’s Army (his strip is here on Go Comics) told me anyways…….
For those of us “older than dirt,” we well remember Skippy. My all-time favorite recollection of this kid was his muttering under his breath after some order from Mom, “I willn’t.” My own Mom had a heckuva time convincing me I was definitely not to follow suit.
The rampant stupidity on this site’s boards never fails to amaze me. They CAN’T make the type bigger you bozos! it was done 80-90 years ago! hit command + on your keyboard!
@informationThat doesn’t always work. The print got fuzzier the bigger I made it. If it continues this way, I may have to take this strip off my list. Such a shame too, as I think I would have liked this strip.
To all the whiners: try it in Google Chrome at 125% then hit the strip’s magnifying glass. If that’s still too small for ya then expand to 150%. Very readable and clear with no noticeable blurring.

I had to expand it and THEN zoom my browser view to 200%.
On the subject at hand: I know getting a telegram meant bad news. I guess long distance phone calls were regarded the same way.

What size type did the author use: minus-16?????What a waste of space when readers aren’t able to read what is written!

Can only make out every other word even expanding it. Text needs to redone.

Mama left the kids alone to go into the city. Truly a different time.

Even at full magnification, I can’t read that type.

It looks like a comic I would enjoy, but I can’t read it. Even when it is enlarged the print is fuzzy and illegible. Too bad.
