“Pack that behind ya monocle.” I guess that’s the equivalent of “stick that in your pipe and smoke it.” I’m thinking of the looks I’d get if I ever used that line.
I particularly love, “is that any wax outa your ears?” Slang changes frequently over even a short amount of time. After nearly 100 years, it’s even more removed from what we’re used to. I think that’s part of what makes reading Dickens, Twain, and even Shakespeare interesting — taking your mind on a journey of the way everyday folks used to talk.
Reminds me of the Cagney book I read about growing up in NY in early 1900’s. Last frame was result of a fist fight to see who is right and made them friends. Love it, but then I’m old enough to remember some of the slang.

I’m taking it that the last panel is a salute to another comic’s characters. Does anyone recognize it?
I also love the long forgotten slang terms. To paraphrase Alistair Cooke: The past is a foreign country. They say things differently there.

Interesting how a comic strip can help shine a light on how much our language has changed.
