Monocles were stupid, which Skippy is showing here with his childhood innocent remark. If someone really has one bad eye, it makes much more sense to wear glasses with a fake plain lens for the good eye. Monocles were probably more often worn only as a fashion statement, like this dapper upper-crust guy above.
If you have grown up using chopsticks, it is easier to eat Chinese food with chopsticks than with a fork. Also, Chinese food doesn’t taste the same when eaten with a fork. Something about the metal, I think.
