Someone left a soapbox lying around so pardon me if I step up for a bit. While I don’t believe children of the era were as snappy on the patter as Skippy and his contemporaries, neither were they supposed to be completely alien. They were at least connected and more to their surroundings. They were engaged. Youngsters who spend their lives in a phone at the worst have a personality range in negative figures: no interest in actual people; no concept of cultural or historical references beyond what’s on their phone; sneering at everything outside their very limited circumference of experience and no interest in expanding it. I don’t know what they will do when they want an actual life that THEY have to provide for themselves.
