Ripley's Believe It or Not by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for April 20, 2015
Transcript:
The first hypodermic needle, made of a quill and sheep's bladder, was used to inject a dog with opium. Ace! San Jose Country Club member Ida Pieracci, 102, of San Jose, CA, has sunk 11 holes in one on the course! Busted! At Cairo's Egyptian Museum, King Tut's 3300-year-old burial mask's beard was broken during a cleaning- then glued back on!

What’s up folks? Ripley’s is entertaining. In this day and age with the internet and instant communication it is far harder to produce Ripley’s then it was back in the pre-computer days. The beard story about King Tut made the national news. I wonder how many people have ever hit even one hole-in-one. Every day I find something of interest in Ripley’s. Keep up the good work!

Voicing my support of the strip as well. Ripley’s is one of the only two comics I read on GoComics on a day-to-day basis. I find just about every entry to be intriguiging. The complainers can take a hike.

I wonder if that original hypodermic needle’s appearance would cause a human about to be injected, to faint at the sight of it; Gilligan’s Island is still fresh on my mind from commenting on Pickles, and Skipper fainted at the sight of the hypodermic needle that the Professor would use to vaccinate him against Gilligan’s hair tonic. Sure, everybody who got the injection was sore in the shot-receiving arm later.

How long has Ida been playing golf on that course? You say she’s 102 years old. I’m thinking her longevity was a factor in her achievement of hitting 11 holes-in-one there.

Dear Prof’s Hubbie, you took my comment entirely wrong. Ripley’s has always encouraged readers to submit their amazing facts to us…it started with Robert Ripley himself. When you think about it, Ripley’s was one of the first “interactive” cartoon features. All I was doing was extending the invitation to you…to have some fun. Not to “pass the buck” as you said. I am indeed sorry that you took the remark negatively as it was not the intention.

Not as bad as the priceless painting in a church that was fading due to age. A woman who worked there thought she should try and restore it…what she did was make a 2 yr old’s drawing look like Picaso

The standard of Ripley’s has not deteriorated at all. It’s the civility, and standard of conduct of some of it’s readers that comes into question here. First of all, I believe Mr. Graziano is merely the artist that brings these always interesting facts to life, not the fact-finder/researcher whom undoubtedly resides somewhere at Ripley’s corporate. So your comment lacks merit from most every angle. Secondly, Ripley’s has always counted on submissions from it’s readers and fans for content, why is the call for YOUR riveting contribution passing the buck? It seems quite on point to me. Lastly, this is a cartoon feature. Why all the hostility and bitterness? Why do you feel the need to soil this site with your anger, and misplaced aggression? I long for the days when you read these features in the newspaper, and were therefore not subject to the grumblings and foul temperament of every crank who happens to read it also. JMO.
