Adam: Okay. Our movie needs a name.
Katy: "Adorable zombie ponies."
Adam: Okay. Good.
Katy: Have you gotten the ponies yet?
Adam: Well, we need to talk about that.
Katy: Sigh. You had one job.
Adam: We blew half the budget on pop-tarts!
Our middle daughter wanted a horse and my standard answer was the same as my mom’s. “Save your allowance.” And, begorra, she did. Of course, the horse was the easy part. There was a barn, fencing, hay and oats, a saddle, etc., etc., etc. We needed a whip and a chair o get her to clean up the yard, and then she tied Rosie too close to the garden, and that was that. I’d have rather sold the kid and kept the horse, but Maryland has very strict laws about that.
I saw this as more channeling producer / director behavior. I have seen this exact scene played out on a production set with a very demanding director. My other favorite line from the same director: “It would be easier to count every kernel of Pharaoh’s grain than to get what I need from you.”

Hate to see what happen if Breakfast Squares® were still on the market!

Get her some toy ponies and call it a day. My daughter has “My Little Ponys” and when she wants to see a real one, we just drive down the street.

“You had one job.” Is that a reference to Taylor Swift recently having a song misquoted by an SAT-prep manual?
