In 1907 and 1908, the Cubs won back-to-back World Series championships. Those were heady years. Starting in 1946, the Cubs fell into a slump. Mike Royko said that league pennant poles have been installed at Wrigley Field, stood for years, rotted away and then replaced without ever holding a pennant. Generations of Chicagoans have been born, lived and died without ever seeing the Cubs win the World Series. There are now unique standards for judging the Cubs. If the Cubs lose 2-1, that is a very good day and a Cubs fan can go home happy. If the Cubs lose 4-1, well, that is an average day, no happiness but no sadness. If the Cubs lose 6-1 or get blown out of the park, that is a bad day. At Wrigley Field, the Cubs hitting, pitching, fielding and beer all have one characteristic in common, they are all cold.
With Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, and Ferguson Jenkins, to mention a few, it was always somewhat of a puzzle to me, looking at it from afar, why they didn’t win more in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s. So, I have my doubts one player will make much of an impact.

Oh the pain. A whole 23 years with no Super Bowl. How will the people of the Virginia suburbs survive?

In the category of #humblebrag, I did not think the Braves would win four games in April 2015.

The idea of the Cubs winning the World Series: I think that guy’s head is already frozen.
