What’s really crazy is that to get a firearms license down here you don’t need to know anything about firearms, firearms safety, or carry laws. And if you ask 10 different public officials to explain carry laws, you’ll get 12 different answers.
There should be a required parent license law, because really most people should not be allowed to become parents. These people aren’t even qualified to take care of a plastic house plant.
A man I recently worked with was the child of a biker who is in prison for murder now and a heroin-addicted stripper. He’s odd but okay. I’m the second (of 5) children of a gentle but alcoholic man and a schizophrenic mother. Odd but okay again. Nature is probably better than our ideas of what others should do.
Interesting topic. The issue is fraught difficulties, many likely un-resolvable. I personally fall squarely in the “should have a license” camp. Over population is, arguably, the world’s foremost problem, and child abuse and neglect are rampant. Requiring all persons to have classes in basic human biology and child-rearing techniques as part of ordinary schooling, and thereafter meet certain criteria (financial and, perhaps, drug testing) before licensing makes a great deal of sense to me. The impact of procreation on the ecosystem, economy, and society, as well as the societal obligation to promote child welfare argue strongly for some sort of regulation.Initial googling of the question brought up Should people be required to obtain a parenting license in order to have a child? as the first search item.

By the way, I’m “pro gun”, but this is nuts.
