If the knife is essential weapon for Tarzan, the illustrator should show that it always available, hanging on right side of Tarzan’s buttock. John Celardo never failed to draw Tarzan’s knife in every occasion neither tarzan’s leopard loincloth, not like that in panel 2.

Much is made of Tarzan’s size and strength, but whenever he has to fight, out comes the knife. Most soldiers could do as well fighting a “Bull Gorilla” as Mr. Stabbity Stab if they were allowed a knife.

@Marc Poschman, we never see Lieutenant D’Arnot for instance jump in with only a knife to take down any critter, any size. The knife is fine in the context of these life or death battles.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the magic knife appear on both Tarzan’s left and right hips. Also, I think I’ve seen Tarzan shoot his bow both left and right handed. Amazing guy with amazing equipment (I imagine Jane [and various other jungle females] agree).
