Sometimes we’re forced to file at the last minute because the financial institutions are very late getting us the information we need. When called on it, they claim that they are exempt from the Feb. 2nd deadline for some reason. We’ve had years when we don’t get the information we need until AFTER April 15th, so we have to file an addendum…and the financial institutions bear no responsibility or cost for any of this! (And we usually get a refund from the feds, the state, or both).

Refund. What’s a refund? We haven’t had a refund for many years. We always have to pay extra even though we’re both retired.

When one files does not determine whether one gets a refund or not.
