Mine don’t sing…they squawk, hoot, croak, squawk, scream, beep, honk and squawk some more.
A racket from dusk till after dawn, and sometimes in the daytime too.
Plus, they build their nests on weak low branches … or on open ledges, where they can fall, or you can bump into them…and when the nest tumbles or is threatened, the parent birds dive-bomb passers-by, strafing their hair with outspread claws.
But they’re funny little clowns, the same pair returning year after year to peck my windows and drive me crazy…They’ve been missing for three years now, and I miss them!
I had a red bellied woodpecker that used to drum on the gutters just before the sun would come up. He was here for about 4 years. One day on the way to work I saw a dead one in the road. I never saw him again after that. Obviously it was him.The female mate showed up a couple of times but soon left. This year I have a new one that has shown up at the feeder; could be some of his offspring.

I love the mockingbirds, Let them sing all night, in spring and summer they eat tomato hornworms off my plants before the worms do much damage.

I love all bird sounds – when I can hear them above the traffic.
